Holy Family Catholic Education Center

Over two decades after CCR was commissioned to design the 550 seat sanctuary and worship center the Archdiocese of Baltimore again requested our services. This next phase was immediately necessary to better serve the growing church and its large Sunday school attendance.

Appropriate site planning and positioning of this large, 30,000 SF addition was a key to optimal daily functions. It was important to directly connect with centralized circulation and be to the rear of the original worship center. This was necessary hierarchical organization and, by centering a long, rectangular building volume we were able to reduce the implied size of the building to keep the main focus on the sanctuary and worship center.

The new Education Center was planned to expand the quickly growing Sunday school curriculum planned for up to 600 people. The new facility program required a new, larger parish hall for nearly 700 occupants. The central, 12 foot wide corridor spills into a comfortably sized lobby adjacent to the Hall. This lobby also connects to several stair access points and the new chapel.
